Colorado Buffaloes (4-3)
The Buffaloes beat the Iowa State Cyclones 14-13 in last week’s action. The Buffaloes are a young team that is talented but lacks game experience. The Buffaloes lost the three previous games by an average of 19.6 points per game. Head coach Dan Hawkins took the red shirt off quarterback Tyler Hansen and it paid off. Hansen gives the Buffaloes an additional running threat that they do not have with Cody Hawkins, the coach son, under center. Hansen ran the ball 19 times for 86 yards. With Iowa State, Texas A&M, and Nebraska still on the schedule, they have a chance at playing in a bowl game.
Iowa State Cyclones (2-4)
The Cyclones are coming off a second straight thrashing at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The week before, The Baylor Bears whipped the Cyclones 38-10. Iowa State has been stagnant of offense scoring just over 17 points per game. With a defense, that gives up over 29 points a game on the season, The Cyclones chances of getting another victory will be in this next game against Texas A&M. In a losing effort, Alexander Robinson gained 87 yards on 16 carries and scored the Cyclones only touchdown. The Cyclones give up to many points and can not play catch up because of their lack of a passing offense.
Kansas Jayhawks (5-2)
The Jayhawks are coming of a 45-31 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. Kansas played one of the best teams in the country tough until the end of the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Desmon Brisco was unstoppable after catching 12 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. The rest of the schedule is tough for Kansas with Texas Tech, Texas, and Missouri coming up. Kansas is tough on their home field with a perfect record of 4-0 and the average margin of victory of 23.4. The Jayhawks are 2-1 in the conference and still have a chance to get into the championship game if they can pull off an upset or two.
Kansas State Wildcats (4-3)
The Wildcats have a winning record but those wins have comes against the likes of North Texas, Montana State, and UL-Lafayette. The Wildcats are coming off 14-13 loss at the hands of Colorado. However, the defense was impressive by shutting out Colorado in the second half of the game. Quarterback Josh Freeman completed 21of 29 passes for 234 yards. The Wildcats defense is giving up 429 yards and almost 28 point per game. The Wildcats do not have much of chance against Oklahoma in their next game but can win two of the remaining four games if the can tighten things up on the defensive end of the ball. If they can get to six wins on the season, a bowl appearance is likely.
Missouri Tigers (5-2)
The Tigers aspirations of a perfect season came to halt two weeks ago when the undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys upset Missouri 28-23. Then the Tigers were trampled by the number one Texas Longhorns 56-31 last weekend. The season is not lost but the Tigers could be in a letdown spot here after the two losses. The offensive line did not give Chase Daniels the needed time to make plays over the last two games. The Buffaloes are next on deck and should give the Tigers a much-needed victory. The Tigers have five winnable games left to play and can represent the North Division in a possible rematch with Texas for the conference championship.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-3)
The Cornhuskers finally got themselves back in the win column last weekend when they up ended Iowa Sate 35-7. However, The Cornhuskers defense has surrendered up an average of 41 points per game to ranked opponents. Quarterback Joe Ganz was exceptional in the win by hitting on 36-44 of his passing attempts s for 349 yards and two touchdowns. With three winnable games left on the schedule, The Cornhuskers will end up playing an extra game in December.
