It is always important to look back before looking ahead never more so in the
CFL. Heading into last weekend’s action the Dogs had been on an incredible 75%
winning streak to start the season. What happened the dogs got whopped on all 4
games IF you had the opening lines. In two cases the closing line came into play
as BC ended up pushing and @ +9 and Toronto ended up losing at –4.5, but the
Lions opened at –7 and the Argos opened at –3 so early shoppers were happy.
As we move into week 5 we want to point that line moves on Totals have not been
as profitable in the past 2 weeks. These plays started out a very solid 4-1 in
the first weeks but have slipped to 6-7 so in the last two weeks they have gone
2-5. Not surprisingly the O-U have gone 6-2 during that span as Offenses and
special teams seems to be clicking.
WEEK 5 Match Ups:
Calgary –6 @ Winnipeg O/U 55 – The Bluebombers come into this game limping they
are 0-4 have benched their starting QB and lost two key linebackers last game.
Calgary on the other hand is riding high as one of the top teams in the CFL. The
offence is superb and the run defense has been stifling. So this should be
another blow out right? Could very well be but the Bombers may show some back
bone this will be a good game to keep our eye on the TOTAL as it has started to
drop sitting now at 54.5.
ED –2.5 @ Hamilton O/U 52 – The Tiger cats looked lost with their star running
back Jesse Lumsden, we thought perhaps Tre Smith may fill in nicely but he
looked nervous dropping the ball on 3 of his first 5 touches. That seemed to set
the tone for the cats last Friday who will have LUMSDEN back in the line
according to the Hamilton Press. Edmonton on the other hand lead almost the
entire game in Toronto except when it matter most at the end. The Eskimos are on
a short week and have to travel to the East for the 2nd straight week. The key
to this game maybe the loss of ESKIMO Defensive Tackle Fred Perry, his lack of
pressure may help the Tiger Cats running game.
Mont +6.5 @ BC O/U 53 – Montreal looked horrible in the second half vs Sask last
week and the test this week does not get any easier. Anthony Calvillo never
plays well in BC Place and the AL’s are also playing their second game in a row
OTR this and it’s the late start in BC. This does not bode well for Montreal
backers, as the Leos are feeling pretty confident after back-to-back wins over
the lowly Bluebombers. A lions ML parlay will be in order here.
TOR +4.5 @ SASK O/U 54 – This will be an intriguing match up. Kerry Joseph
played brilliantly last week rushing for the game winning TD and over 100 yards.
He will facing his old team the green riders for the first time since being
dealt to Toronto he was named number 1 QB over Mike Bishop who was 11-2 as a
starter last year. Sask has its own QB controversy and do they start Marcus
Crandle when he is ready to return at QB despite Darrin Durant’s fine play while
Crandle has been out. The Argos are struggling on defense but seem to get the
stops when needed vs Edmonton, keep an eye on this total as well. Sask home
games tend to be high scoring and head to head with the Argos the over is 8-4
but the Avg score has been 50 and the Avg line 47.5.
